    Course Overview

    The Bend Cares course offers a comprehensive exploration of theory and practice related to supporting children's mental health and well-being. The course combines evidence-based approaches, coaching principles, and an understanding of social determinants of health to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to create a positive and inclusive environment for children. Through instructor-led sessions, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, participants will gain a deep understanding of the factors influencing children's mental health and develop strategies to effectively support their well-being.

    You will learn how to:

    • Effectively incorporate health and wellness coaching principles into their support of children, promoting their overall well-being and resilience.
    • Effectively promote positive behavior change and support children in developing healthy habits and coping mechanisms.
    • Recognize and understand the signs and symptoms of common mental health disorders in children, enabling them to support early identification and intervention.
    • Apply the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) to understand and support children in various stages of behavior change related to Social Determinants of Health (SDoH).

    Meet Our Trainers

    Monika Roots, MD, FAPA

    CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST

    Dr. Roots is the Co-Founder and President of Bend Health. A child and adolescent psychiatrist, she created Bend Health to address the mental health crisis facing today’s kids and teens. Dr. Roots serves as an assistant adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She previously served as the Chief Medical Officer at Sanvello Health and the Vice President of Health Services at Teladoc Health. She also co-founded CogCubed, a mental health care analytics company focused on developing diagnostic tools for kids, teens, and young adults.

    Donna McCutchen, LICSW

    THERAPIST

    Donna is the Senior Vice President of Program Development at Bend and a Licensed Psychotherapist. She has over 20 years of experience working with children and families. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to providing psychotherapy and support in various settings, including private practice, community mental health centers, schools, virtual behavioral health platforms, the court system, and medical settings. In addition to direct clinical work she has held positions in senior leadership and program development at highly successful behavioral health organizations and served as an adjunct professor in psychology, substance use, and child development.

    Jess Sicurezza, ACC, GPCC

    PEDIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH COACH

    Jess is an ICF Certified Coach and a Gestalt Professional Certified Coach with over 6 years of coaching experience specializing in working with children and families to increase motivation, overcome obstacles, lean into radical acceptance and ignite the change process. She most recently obtained a certification in Positive Psychology and Well-Being Coaching which she uses to offer support to families in the process of behavior change.
    This course is approved by the National Board of Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWCs) for continuing education.
